Waymo Recalls Fleet Over Safety Concerns
Autonomous vehicle operator Waymo has initiated a recall of nearly 4,000 of its robotaxis following reports of software malfunctions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicles were unable to properly recognize construction zones and highway ramp closures.
Reports indicate several instances in San Francisco and Phoenix where autonomous vehicles entered restricted zones, creating potential crash hazards. A company spokesperson stated that Waymo has identified an area for performance improvement regarding freeway navigation and is working to resolve the software issue. The company maintains that its service continues to operate normally on surface streets in all cities.
