Opening Ceremonies Mark Official Start
The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games officially commenced on Saturday evening at the University of Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium. The opening ceremony featured musical performances by Demi Lovato and Jon Batiste, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the games’ cauldron, which concluded the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg.
More than 3,000 athletes, coaches, and supporters from all 50 states and the District of Columbia have arrived in the Twin Cities for the weeklong event. The competition, which runs through June 26, represents a significant national stage for athletes competing in 16 individual and team sports.
Competition Venues and Coverage
Athletic events are being held across two primary hubs. The University of Minnesota is hosting track and field, basketball, bocce, competitive cheer, cornhole, gymnastics, powerlifting, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. The National Sports Center in Blaine is serving as the venue for bowling, flag football, golf, pickleball, soccer, and softball.
