Investigation into Death Underway
Amber Siyavus, a former contestant on the CBS reality competition series Big Brother, has died at the age of 46. According to records from the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner in Nevada, Siyavus passed away on Friday, October 9, at a residence in Las Vegas. While her death has been confirmed by local officials to Deadline, the specific cause and manner of her death remain pending as the investigation continues.
The news of her passing was first reported by TMZ on Monday, October 12. Since the announcement, colleagues and fans have begun sharing tributes, reflecting on her time in the public eye nearly two decades ago.
Legacy on Big Brother Season 8
Siyavus gained national attention during her appearance on the eighth season of Big Brother in 2007. A cocktail waitress from Las Vegas at the time, she quickly became a central figure in the game. She was a member of the “Late Night Crew” alliance and formed significant bonds with fellow houseguests Jameka Cameron and Dustin Erikstrup.
Known for her emotional transparency, Siyavus was nicknamed “Whamber” by some of her castmates due to her frequent displays of emotion. Despite the high-pressure environment, she reached the jury phase of the competition, eventually being evicted in eighth place. She remains the only houseguest from that season to reach the jury without securing a Head of Household or Power of Veto win.
In a post-eviction interview, Siyavus addressed her departure, suggesting that other players viewed her as a threat to their endgame because of her strong relationships within the house. “I think I was evicted because, honestly, nobody wants to be sitting next to me in the final two,” she noted at the time.
Family History and Community Response
The loss of Siyavus follows a period of profound personal tragedy for her family. In January 2018, her 18-year-old daughter, Lexi Tomcavage, died in an apparent suicide in Ohio. Siyavus had spoken openly about her experience as a single mother during her time on Big Brother, often referencing her daughter.
Longtime Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves paid tribute to Siyavus on social media, sharing a clip of the contestant’s exit interview. “Rest in Peace Amber,” Moonves wrote on Instagram. “Hard to believe but I know you are back in our eternal home with our Creator. Thank you for your heart and honesty. We will remember you with love.”
