The 40-minute episode features a conversation between regular host Dr. Clea Wright and guest psychologist and author Dr. Emma Kavanagh, whose recent book, The Psychopath Effect: The Mind-altering Power of the Psychopaths Among Us, informs much of the discussion.
The episode provides a detailed examination of psychopathic personality traits, focusing on how these individuals navigate social and professional environments. A key point of the discussion includes Dr. Kavanagh’s research into the children of psychopaths, noting that these individuals often develop an advanced ability to identify subtle warning signs of dangerous behavior in others. The experts also addressed the tendency of some individuals with psychopathic traits to seek out and exploit positions of power.
Dr. Wright noted that this episode is part of a broader crime-themed mini-series produced by the department. Looking ahead, the team plans to expand their analysis to popular media, including an upcoming look at the next series of the television show Celebrity Traitors. Additionally, the university will host a Traitors-themed event at Chester’s Picturehouse this July as part of the annual Festival of Ideas.
