Messina Touring, the concert promoter, announced the decision, citing the safety of fans, staff, and crew as the primary concern as a nor’easter approaches New England.
According to The Guardian, the cancellation follows consultation with local officials regarding the weekend forecast. The 64,628-seat venue confirmed that all tickets are fully refundable, with Ticketmaster processing automatic refunds for those who purchased through the platform.
Tour Turbulence and Public Backlash
The cancellation marks another setback for Sheeran’s ongoing tour, which has been embroiled in controversy since the removal of opening act Macklemore. The rapper was dropped from the tour following his on-stage comments supporting Palestine at a performance in New Jersey, where he called for a “Free Palestine.”
The decision to remove Macklemore was reportedly influenced by pressure from Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots. Al Jazeera reports that the move triggered a widespread boycott, with several other supporting acts, including the Irish band Beoga and singer Finneas, withdrawing from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
