Issuance Expands XRP Ledger Portfolio
Asset management giant Franklin Templeton significantly expanded its digital asset footprint on Thursday by issuing approximately $150 million in tokenized shares of its Singapore-domiciled money market fund onto the XRP Ledger, according to KuCoin. The multi-million-dollar deployment quadrupled the fund’s footprint on the network, pushing its total on-chain value to roughly $200 million based on a transaction price of $1.039 per share.
On-chain records show that the issuance was split into two identical subscription transactions of $75 million each, processed on Wednesday with distinct reference codes, followed by corresponding token issuances of just over 72.184 million shares each on Thursday. Crucially, the entire $150 million issuance was routed to a single wallet. This wallet now holds nearly 193 million sgBENJI shares, a sharp increase from about 48 million shares previously recorded on the network.
Governance, Architecture, and Asset Composition
The newly expanded holding operates under strict issuer controls. Ledger records indicate that the receiving wallet and Franklin Templeton’s issuing account authorize the same eight signing addresses, requiring any two of those designated keys to approve a transaction together. This architectural setup underscores the institutional focus on risk mitigation and regulatory compliance within public ledger environments.
Each sgBENJI token directly corresponds to one share in the Singapore-domiciled Franklin OnChain U.S. Dollar Short-Term Money Market Fund. The underlying fund invests primarily in short-term U.S. dollar debt and money-market instruments, encompassing government securities, commercial paper, and bank deposits, with investment returns reflected directly in the appreciating share price. Direct ownership of sgBENJI on the XRP Ledger requires explicit approval from Franklin Templeton, whose network settings also preserve the operational capability to freeze balances and recover tokens if necessary.
Market Position and Unresolved Transparency Questions
Data from RWA.xyz places Franklin Templeton second among tokenized asset platforms operating on the XRP Ledger. Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin currently leads the network with about $930 million, while Ondo follows Franklin with approximately $185 million in tokenized value. The latest expansion cements the XRP Ledger as an increasingly prominent hub for institutional real-world asset tokenization, built upon prior collaborations between Franklin Templeton, DBS, and Ripple.
Despite the transparency inherent in public ledgers, the exact nature of the single receiving wallet remains unverified. Industry observers note that brokers and institutional custodians frequently utilize a single account to aggregate shares on behalf of multiple underlying clients while maintaining separate off-chain ownership records. Franklin Templeton’s fund documentation describes a register that bridges blockchain entries with traditional off-network records. However, inquiries directed to the asset manager regarding whether the receiving wallet functions as an omnibus account, how many individual investors funded the subscriptions, or whether separate addresses will ultimately receive tokens had not received a response by Saturday morning in Asia.
Operational Dynamics and Contextual Background
The mechanics of the transaction reveal precise timing and execution details across the network. On Wednesday, Franklin Templeton’s issuing account recorded two separate subscription receipts, each documenting a $75 million cash subscription paired with a distinct reference code. These entries set the stage for the subsequent distribution of just over 72,184,793 sgBENJI shares per batch on Thursday at 02:58 and 04:13 UTC. While these blockchain receipts authenticate the capital inflow, they omit identifying information regarding the underlying investors or the specific origin of the funds, leaving open whether the capital originated from fresh sources or moved from parallel network environments such as Stellar, where the fund also maintains a presence.
Platform data contrasts slightly regarding the valuation of the position. While RWA.xyz tracks Franklin’s holdings at approximately $193 million—effectively treating each share as valued at one dollar—the actual transaction price of $1.039 recorded on Thursday pushes the total market value of the wallet’s contents to the $200 million threshold. This variance highlights the nuances of on-chain data interpretation versus executed transaction pricing, especially for appreciating money market instruments whose yields compound directly into the unit price over time.
Broader operational strategies involving the fund trace back to collaborations announced in late 2025. Franklin Templeton and DBS initially rolled out the Singapore-authorized structure in November 2025, instituting a $20 minimum investment aimed initially at wealth management clients and accredited investors, with retail availability slated for early 2026. Furthermore, a strategic framework agreement established in September 2025 among Franklin Templeton, DBS, and Ripple outlined pathways allowing eligible DBS Digital Exchange clients to swap sgBENJI tokens for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and vice versa, alongside proposals for DBS to explore lending facilities secured by the fund tokens.
These prior commitments help contextualize the sudden surge in network volume. By expanding tokenized assets substantially on the XRP Ledger, the initiative aligns with Ripple’s ongoing efforts to deepen institutional utility following recent platform upgrades. Nevertheless, because the singular wallet structure concentrates the entire newly issued token supply into a single destination, market participants continue to monitor whether the arrangement represents a solitary institutional entity scaling its holdings or a custodial intermediary managing fractionalized exposure for an undisclosed cohort of end-users.
