Deputies with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home just after 5 p.m. on Sunday following a 911 call reporting gunshots fired from inside the property. Authorities confirmed that an individual inside the residence during the shooting managed to safely escape before deputies arrived.
Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel established a perimeter around the home before entering to inspect the premises. Inside, deputies discovered three deceased individuals. Investigators have not yet released official identities or a definitive cause of death through formal public announcements, pending autopsies and next-of-kin notifications.
Identities and Law Enforcement Background
Reporting sources have identified the deceased individuals as former senior members of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD). According to ABC7 News, citing sources with intimate knowledge of the investigation, former SFPD Sergeant Kevin Mannix allegedly shot and killed his wife, former SFPD Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, and their 25-year-old daughter before turning the firearm on himself.
Property records reviewed by reporters indicate that the Strawberry Circle residence is owned by the two former law enforcement officers. The community of Strawberry is located in unincorporated Mill Valley near Tiburon, where family members gathered outside the scene on Sunday evening upon learning of the tragedy.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Safety Status
Miguel Almaguer of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office stated during media briefings that the investigation remains in its early stages and that detectives are working to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators awaited a formal search warrant to thoroughly process the inside of the home.
Authorities have repeatedly emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the general public related to the shooting. As the community reels from the incident, local officials and crisis responders have pointed to available mental health resources, noting that individuals in crisis can connect with support services by calling or texting 988.
