A seven-week-old Shar Pei puppy named Obi is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a fishing hook embedded in his cheek. The incident, which occurred in Cornwall, serves as a stark reminder for pet owners to exercise heightened caution when visiting fishing sites.
According to Falmouth Vets for Pets, the injury occurred when a fishing rod was left unattended for a brief moment. The puppy, attracted by the bright lure, bit the object, causing the hook to become lodged in his cheek. His owner, Lea Thomas, acted immediately by taking the puppy to the clinic rather than attempting to remove the hook manually, a decision veterinary surgeons praised as critical to preventing further tissue damage.
