A New Chapter in the WandaVision Trilogy
Marvel Television is set to conclude its thematic trilogy—begun with WandaVision and continued through Agatha All Along—with the premiere of VisionQuest on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. The series, helmed by showrunner Terry Matalas, moves away from the suburban chaos of Westview to focus on the internal and external struggles of Vision, played by Paul Bettany. Following his restoration in WandaVision, the character is now tasked with navigating a fragmented existence while attempting to reconcile his past as a weapon with his desire for autonomy.
The AI Internal Landscape
The series employs a unique narrative device: Vision, while on the run, accesses a digital space within his own consciousness. This space is populated by human representations of various artificial intelligences that have defined his history, including J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D’Arcy), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady), E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), D.U.M.-E (Henry Lewis), and U (Jonathan Sayer). These figures serve as mirrors to Vision’s own development, forcing him to confront the disparate components of his programming.
Central to this dynamic is the return of James Spader as Ultron. Unlike his previous cinematic appearances, this version of Ultron has been effectively “imprisoned” within Vision’s mind since 2015. Spader describes the character’s current state as one of forced confinement, where he continues to exert influence while trapped alongside the very AIs he views with disdain. This creates a psychological tension, as Vision must balance the guidance of his benevolent “ancestors” against the manipulative presence of his creator.
Jocasta and the Stakes of Identity
A significant addition to the cast is T’Nia Miller as Jocasta. Showrunner Terry Matalas has identified the character as a standout figure in the MCU, noting that her role is far from a mere cameo. In Marvel Comics lore, Jocasta is often depicted as a “bride” created by Ultron, a history that aligns with her inclusion in this tech-focused narrative. Her presence is expected to complicate the relationship between Vision and Ultron, potentially serving as a bridge or a wedge between the two.
The physical stakes are equally high. Vision’s reclusive existence is shattered when he becomes the target of a bounty hunter, played by Todd Stashwick, and is forced to protect Thomas Shepard, a mysterious youth who may be the reincarnation or a manifestation of Vision’s “son.” As Vision maneuvers to protect Shepard, he is compelled to confront his own nature and the lingering echoes of his connection to Wanda Maximoff, represented in the series by subtle, color-coded visual cues that hint at the Scarlet Witch’s influence.
