Scott Thompson, the veteran Las Vegas comedian widely known by his stage name Carrot Top, has been hospitalized for undisclosed reasons, prompting the immediate cancellation of his weekend performances at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
The comedian’s publicist, Jami Schlicher, confirmed the news on Friday night, stating that Thompson is currently recovering and receiving the necessary medical attention. “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. She added that his family is deeply grateful for the public’s concern and has requested privacy during this time.
MGM Resorts, which operates the Luxor, also released a statement expressing support for the longtime performer. A spokesperson described Thompson as a “beloved member” of the resort family, adding that they are relieved to hear he is recovering and wishing him strength.
The hospitalization was first reported by TMZ. Thompson had been seen earlier on Friday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. at a local establishment in Downtown Summerlin, just hours before his scheduled 8:00 p.m. performance.
As a result of his medical situation, Thompson’s shows for Friday and Saturday nights were canceled. While his regular schedule leaves Sundays dark, tickets for Monday’s show and subsequent dates next week remain on sale. MGM Resorts representatives noted they have no further updates regarding when the comedian is expected to return to the stage.
Thompson has been a staple of the Las Vegas Strip entertainment scene, headlining at the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom since November 2005. His prop-based comedy show is one of the longest-running solo residencies in the city’s history.
