The United States government has unveiled a new, limited-edition passport design as part of the country’s ongoing 250th-anniversary celebrations. President Donald Trump shared the design on Truth Social, noting the document features a distinct message: “Welcome, but be good!”
The commemorative design includes an image of President Trump seated at the Resolute Desk, overlaid against the text of the Declaration of Independence. The facing page features John Trumbull’s renowned painting, The Declaration of Independence. The White House subsequently confirmed the design on its official X account, stating the document serves to commemorate the nation’s milestone.
According to reports, the special edition passport is currently slated to be the default issuance at the Washington Passport Agency for eligible in-person renewals. Other passport centers and online application channels are expected to continue issuing the standard passport design for the time being. The initiative, first announced in April, marks one of several high-profile projects tied to the 250th-anniversary festivities.
The introduction of the design has prompted discussion regarding the precedent of including images of sitting political figures on federal travel documents. While the White House has framed the design as a patriotic tribute, it represents a departure from the traditional aesthetic standards for standard government-issued identification.
