Winchester Crown Court (Azat TV) – Joanne Young, 49, testified in an ongoing trial at Winchester Crown Court, detailing how she locked herself in a bathroom after discovering that her then-husband, former Conservative councillor Philip Young, had covertly brought a stranger into their home for sexual acts without her knowledge or consent. According to police interviews played to the jury and reported by the Daily Star, Mrs Young waived her right to anonymity to give evidence in the high-profile case.

Mrs Young described how the disturbing February 2023 incident unfolded following an evening out with friends. Wearing a blindfold and wrist restraints, she initially believed she was engaging in consensual intimacy with her husband at the foot of their bed. However, she recalled feeling another hand on her wrist and experiencing immediate shock upon realizing a stranger was present in the bedroom.

Discovery of Intrusive Encounters

“I can’t remember all of it,” Mrs Young told the court through recorded police interviews. “We had been out drinking with friends that evening… I had the blindfold on and the restraints. I had been having sex and I felt someone else’s hand on my wrist – and it wasn’t his hand because he was at the end of the bed on me – and the hand was over there.” She recounted that Philip Young told the intruder to “get down” before she fled to the bathroom, staying inside in a state of shock, unsure whether it was safe to emerge.

Upon eventually leaving the bathroom, she discovered the bedroom was empty and later spotted an unfamiliar vehicle parked outside. When she confronted her husband the following day, he apologized and claimed it was a one-off occurrence resulting from online forums. However, Mrs Young testified that the full scope of the deception only emerged on the day of his arrest, when he admitted that multiple unauthorized encounters had taken place.

Wider Charges and Legal Proceedings

Philip Young has already pleaded guilty to 56 charges, which include raping and drugging his wife over a 13-year period. The current trial at Winchester Crown Court involves four additional defendants—Norman Macksoni, Richard Wilkins, Connor Sanderson-Doyle, and Mohammed Hassan—who are facing various sexual offences. A sixth defendant, Dean Hamilton, has also entered guilty pleas as the legal proceedings continue to unfold before the jury.

During her testimony, Mrs Young emphasized that their marital relationship was traditionally monogamous, characterizing their intimate life as standard and stating she never consented to being photographed or subjected to external participants. The trial continues as prosecutors present further evidence regarding the scale of the exploitation.

Detailed Courtroom Revelations and Context

As the legal proceedings advanced at Winchester Crown Court, additional details regarding the mechanics of the deception emerged through recorded police evidence and courtroom arguments. Presiding judge Mr Justice Saini ordered the courtroom to be cleared during portions of the proceedings so that video evidence could be evaluated with strict limitations on attendance, permitting only the jury, barristers, the judge, defendants, and two observing journalists to remain present out of respect for Mrs Young’s privacy.

Mrs Young detailed to investigators that she and Philip Young had been together for 22 years and married for 20 years, maintaining what she understood to be a completely normal and monogamous relationship. When questioned by officers regarding whether any specific sleep-related sexual fantasies had ever been discussed or integrated into their private life, she firmly denied any such arrangement, stating that the concept was entirely foreign to her expectations of marriage.

The investigation into Philip Young was initially launched in the summer of 2023 after law enforcement received notifications regarding extreme imagery uploaded to the Kik messaging app. This digital trail ultimately exposed a pattern of covert actions that spanned over a decade, resulting in the extensive 56 charges to which Philip Young has entered guilty pleas. Meanwhile, the co-defendants currently standing trial maintain their respective pleas as legal arguments test the boundaries of consent, deception, and criminal culpability under English law.
