Malaysia Airlines Bhd has announced adjustments to its flight schedules at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 to accommodate temporary airspace closures for the 69th National Day celebrations. The airline confirmed that flight times for selected arrivals and departures are being modified to align with scheduled flypast rehearsals and the main event.
According to the official announcement, the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area will experience temporary closures on specific dates. Operations will be suspended between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM from August 26 to August 28, and from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM on August 29 and August 31. These windows are dedicated to rehearsals, the full dress rehearsal, and the final National Day Flypast.
The airline is currently notifying affected passengers through their registered contact information. Travelers are strongly encouraged to verify their flight status via the official Malaysia Airlines website or mobile application before heading to the airport.
Beyond flight retiming, the airline highlighted that the period from August 26 to September 6, 2026, coincides with school holidays and peak travel demand. Consequently, passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at the airport at least four hours before their scheduled departure. The airline warned that high travel volumes could lead to extended wait times exceeding 45 minutes at check-in counters, immigration, and security checkpoints. Standard procedures remain in effect: check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure, and boarding gates close 30 minutes prior to take-off.
