A New Chapter in Brand Mashups

Kraft Heinz Canada has officially expanded its experimental product line with the launch of a mac and cheese-flavored cream soda. Released on September 23, 2026, the beverage is a collaboration with Toronto-based Solly’s Craft Soda, marking the latest in a series of unconventional product pairings intended to engage the brand’s loyal Canadian consumer base, as reported by the Financial Post.

The soda combines the traditional sweetness of cream soda with the distinct, savory cheese powder flavor associated with Kraft Dinner (KD). According to Daniel Lundberg, head of marketing at Kraft Heinz, the company viewed the project as an opportunity to explore the boundaries of the brand, noting that a soda was the “last place” consumers would expect to find the KD flavor profile.

Strategic Marketing and Market Exclusivity

The launch is currently limited to the Canadian market, reinforcing the brand’s efforts to leverage its historical roots in Canada. While the company is now a multinational entity based in the United States, its origins remain significant; Kraft Foods was founded by James Lewis Kraft in Stevensville, Ontario, and Heinz Canada was established in Leamington, Ontario, in 1909. This latest collaboration is sold through Amazon and is slated to reach participating retailers in early October, according to the Toronto Sun.

Solly’s Craft Soda founder Adin Wener described the development as an “amazing challenge,” emphasizing that the partnership serves as a platform to introduce his independent company’s modern approach to craft beverages to a wider national audience. The product is priced at $2.95 per can, with multi-pack options reaching up to $64.95 for a 24-pack.

Building on a Pattern of Innovation

This soda launch follows a series of unconventional “mac hacks” and product mashups introduced by Kraft Heinz Canada throughout 2026. Earlier this year, the company introduced KD Mac & Cheesecake in collaboration with Toronto’s SanRemo Bakery and released a line of Asian-style KD Ramen. Furthermore, a KD-infused smoothie—blending cheese flavor with mango, pineapple, and yogurt—was featured at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto last month.

These initiatives appear designed to maintain brand visibility through viral marketing and consumer experimentation. By tapping into the “mac hack” trend, where consumers modify standard KD recipes, the company aims to sustain interest in a legacy product by positioning it as a versatile, albeit polarizing, cultural staple.
